China has the world on a string ,paying lip-service to green power but building coal-fired power stations at an unprecedented rate and is now the world's largest emitter of carbon dioxide.
China acknowledged on Tuesday it is the world’s biggest emitter of greenhouse gases stoking global warming, confirming what scientists have said for years but defending its right to keep growing emissions.
Many of the power stations are subsidised by a gullible Europe to meet carbon credit obligations. China is the source of more than half the Certified Emission Reductions or CER's used for carbon offsets!
China is also churning out solar panels and wind turbines to sell to incompetent governments so they can produce unreliable electricity at multiples of the coal fired plant generated costs
. So to re-iterate for the intellectually-challenged among us known as politicians we are subsiding cheap coal power for the Chinese and they are selling us intermittent solar and wind power generators to produce expensive and unreliable power for ourselves.
Amazingly China is now responsible for more than half the coal burnt in the world.
ReplyDeleteThey are now significant importer of coal from Australia, South Africa and the US. How do these countries acciunt for these imports in their carbon footprint calculations?
China is trying to keep their carbon emission in check though right? I mean they created the 3 Gorges Dam right? And they are starting to adapt solar power as well. They should issue a feed in tariff incentive scheme in place and they'll be able to grow faster.
