Proposed Carbon Tax Bites Julia. Polls Nosedive!

Julia Gillards Labor Government has recorded the worst polling result in 8 years  following a massacre of Labor in NSW last week. Polls like this will destabilise her leadership further and the prospects of her making it to the next election are now increasingly remote. The Australian reports:

SUPPORT for Labor has crashed again, collapsing to an eight-year, two-party-preferred low as Julia Gillard fights the Greens on "traditional values" and sticks by a carbon tax.
The latest Newspoll reveals backing for Tony Abbott and the Coalition has risen in the past fortnight, with the Opposition Leader making up ground to again trail Ms Gillard as preferred prime minister by only nine points.
During the past two weeks - as NSW Labor was wiped out at the state election and the Prime Minister targeted Greens' policies as extremist - federal Labor's primary vote fell from 36 per cent to 32 per cent and the Coalition's rose from 40 per cent to 45 per cent.
The Greens' support fell back to its 2010 election level of 12 per cent two weeks ago.
Based on preference flows at the last federal election, the Coalition has a 10-point lead over Labor on a two-party-preferred basis of 55 to 45 per cent. This is the Coalition's biggest lead after preferences and Labor's lowest two-party-preferred vote since April 2003, when Kim Beazley declared he wanted to take the Labor leadership because Simon Crean was not making any impact on the Howard government in the polls.

  1. I must say I am not surprised at these results given Gillard's inept, lackluster and robotic performance to date.
What really concerns though is Abbot's result. What does it say about the electorates views on him when he is still trailing Gillard in the polls.
The article says he now trails Gillard by 'only' nine points as though some kind of comfort can be taken from this.
To my mind, it could be just as easily said that he 'only' trails Gaddafi by nine points as the most popular person on the planet right now.
Very worrying and small comfort indeed for those looking for a genuine alternative government and a fresh, new dynamic leader.

  2. firstly who pulls the strings the Rudd/Gillies amazing takeover was swift the power brokers are the ones we should be really scared of if they can ousted a chosen PM and replace with a replacement of their choice what chance do we have but people have the power the just have to stop watching reality TV and celebrity this and that its not relevant to anything or just basic trying to live day to day Australia please wake up before its too late.
